Keeping Your Horse Healthy

“An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.” -Benjamin Franklin

Keeping your horse healthy begins with a solid preventative care plan.  Regular vaccination schedules greatly reduce the risk of horses suffering from and transmitting contagious neurologic and respiratory diseases.  We follow the AAEP’s established guidelines for vaccinations.  Vaccines need to administered at 6 month intervals in order to provide your horse with adequate protection from diseases like Eastern Encephalitis, Western Encephalitis, West Nile virus, Equine Herpes virus, and Equine Influenza.  There are additional vaccinations that are administered on a case by case basis depending on the exposure risk of your horse.  Call us to discuss a vaccination plan for your herd or individual.

In addition to regular vaccinations, a strategic deworming program will prevent your horse from having intestinal parasite issues which can negatively affect their appearance and performance.  There are numerous products on the market to choose from and they are not all created equal.  Please call us to discuss and establish an appropriate deworming plan for your horse(s).
